Our Uganda trips

Our Uganda safaris are priced on request, because the cost depends so much on your dates, group size and lodges:

The gorilla permit

The biggest single cost of a Uganda trip is the gorilla trekking permit. For foreign visitors it costs several hundred US dollars per person, per trek — far less than in Rwanda. Permits are limited, sold through the Uganda Wildlife Authority and booked through licensed operators. See gorilla trekking in Uganda and Uganda or Rwanda.

Other permits and park fees

  • Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale also needs a permit, at a lower price than gorillas.
  • Park entry fees are charged per person per day in the national parks.
  • Activities such as boat cruises, guided walks and rhino tracking have their own fees.

What changes the price

  • Number of permits: one gorilla trek or two? Gorillas and chimps?
  • Lodges: from simple lodges to luxury forest lodges near the gorilla trailheads.
  • Road or air: the drive from Entebbe to Bwindi is long — around nine hours on our 4-day trek. Domestic flights to airstrips near the parks save time but add cost.
  • Group size: sharing a vehicle and driver-guide lowers the cost per person.
  • Season: lodges may be cheaper in the rainy months.

Extras to budget for

  • Uganda e-visa — see visa and entry
  • Travel insurance with medical evacuation cover
  • A porter on your gorilla trek — a small fee that supports local communities, and very helpful on steep slopes
  • Tips for your driver-guide, trackers, porters and lodge staff
  • Drinks, laundry and souvenirs
