The Land of a Thousand Hills
Rwanda is small, green and remarkably well organised — you can reach the gorillas of Volcanoes National Park a few hours after landing in Kigali. Beyond the gorillas, Nyungwe's rainforest has chimpanzees and a canopy walkway, Akagera in the east is a savannah park with the Big Five, and Lake Kivu offers quiet days by the water. Kigali, the capital, is known for being clean, safe and easy to explore.
Our Rwanda safaris include a 4-day gorilla trek and an 8-day adventure through Volcanoes, Lake Kivu and Nyungwe. Many travellers also combine Rwanda with gorillas or safari in Uganda — see our Uganda travel guide.
Rwanda: the questions travellers ask us
How many days do I need in Rwanda?
Three or four days is enough for gorillas and Kigali. With 7–8 days you can add golden monkeys, Lake Kivu and chimpanzees in Nyungwe, or a safari in Akagera.
Is Rwanda good for gorilla trekking?
Yes. Volcanoes National Park is one of the best places in the world to see mountain gorillas, and it is only a few hours by road from Kigali. See gorilla trekking in Rwanda.
Where do Rwanda trips start?
At Kigali International Airport. Our trips start with a transfer to your hotel in Kigali.
