Permit and park fees are set by the Rwanda Development Board and change from time to time. We confirm the current figures in your quote.
Our Rwanda trips
- 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking — Kigali, Musanze, gorillas and golden monkeys
- 8 Days Rwanda Adventure Safari — gorillas, golden monkeys, Lake Kivu, Nyungwe's chimps and canopy walk
Both are priced on request for your dates, group size and lodges. The 4-day trip is offered for groups of one, two, four or six travellers, with a single supplement for solo travellers.
The gorilla permit
The standard gorilla permit for international visitors is US$1,500 per person, per trek — the largest single cost of a Rwanda trip. Some East African and African visitors pay less. See gorilla trekking in Rwanda.
Other activities
- Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park
- Chimpanzee tracking and the canopy walkway in Nyungwe
- Park entry and game drives in Akagera
- Hikes such as Dian Fossey's grave
Each has its own fee, much lower than the gorilla permit.
What changes the price
- Lodges: from comfortable lodges in Musanze to some of Africa's most exclusive gorilla lodges.
- Group size: sharing a vehicle and driver-guide lowers the cost per person.
- Number of activities: one gorilla trek, or gorillas plus monkeys, chimps and Akagera.
- Length: Rwanda is compact, so a short trip can still be rewarding.
Saving money
If budget matters, consider tracking gorillas in Uganda, where permits cost much less — or combine both countries. See Uganda or Rwanda for gorillas.
