3 Nights / 4 Days Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Conservation Area

On safari

Follow the Great Migration

Watch hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra move across the Serengeti — calving on the southern plains in January and February, crossing the Mara River from July to October. See when and where.

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater

A full day on the crater floor gives you lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, flamingos and the best chance in Tanzania of seeing black rhino — inside a 600-metre-deep volcanic bowl.

Fly over the Serengeti in a hot-air balloon

Lift off at dawn and drift silently above the plains and the herds, then land for a champagne breakfast in the bush. One of the great safari experiences — book it early in the high season.

Walk in the bush

A guided walking safari shows you the tracks, plants and small creatures you miss from a vehicle. We arrange walks in Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Arusha National Park.

Night game drives and treetop walks

Where night drives are allowed, you may find bush babies, genets and hunting predators by spotlight. At Lake Manyara, a treetop walkway takes you through the forest canopy.

Culture and history

  • Maasai village visit — meet a Maasai family, see their homes and learn about their traditions.
  • Hadzabe and Datoga near Lake Eyasi — go out with Hadzabe hunter-gatherers, and watch Datoga blacksmiths at work.
  • Mto wa Mbu village walk — farms, banana plantations and a lively market town between Tarangire and Manyara.
  • Olduvai Gorge — the site of some of the most important early human fossil finds, on the road to the Serengeti.
  • Empakaai Crater — hike down to a soda lake with flamingos in the Ngorongoro highlands.

Mountains

Climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, or Mount Meru and Ol Doinyo Lengai. Not climbing? A day trip to the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, the Materuni waterfalls and a coffee farm is a lovely day out — see our day trips.

Zanzibar and the coast

Finish with white-sand beaches, snorkelling, spice farms, a sunset dhow cruise and the old streets of Stone Town. See Zanzibar beach holidays and Zanzibar tours.

Quick answers

How much time do I need in Tanzania?

A week covers the northern safari parks. Add 3–5 days for Zanzibar, or 6–8 days for a Kilimanjaro climb.

Can I do a balloon safari in the Serengeti?

Yes — flights leave at dawn from several areas of the Serengeti and end with a bush breakfast. Book well ahead from June to October.

Can I combine a safari with Zanzibar?

Yes. A short flight links the safari areas and Zanzibar, and many of our safaris end on the beach.
