What a safari package includes

A Wild Pride Safaris package normally includes your park entry fees, a professional English-speaking guide, a 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, your accommodation, all meals while on safari, bottled drinking water, game drives and airport transfers. Every itinerary lists exactly what is and is not included.

Not included as a rule: international flights, visas, travel insurance, optional activities such as a balloon flight, personal purchases, drinks at lodges and tips for your guide and lodge staff.

What makes the price go up or down

Where you sleep

Accommodation is the biggest variable. Entry-level luxury lodges cost about $500–$800 per person per night; exclusive boutique lodges $900–$1,500+. Mid-range lodges and tented camps give real comfort at a much lower price. Browse the places we book on our accommodations page.

Park fees

Conservation fees are charged per person per day (or per 24 hours) and are among the highest in Africa in the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where vehicles also pay to descend into the crater. These fees fund wildlife protection. They are set by the parks, change from time to time, and are always included in our quotes.

Season

June to October, the high season, costs the most. The green season, March to May, has the best rates; January–February and November balance value and game viewing. See the best time to visit.

Private or group

A private safari gives you your own vehicle and guide. Sharing a vehicle with other travellers on a group-joining safari lowers the cost. Compare them in group joining or private tours.

Length and route

Longer trips cost more in total but often less per day, because the transfer days are spread out. Flying between parks saves long drives but adds the cost of the flights.

Extras to budget for

  • Visa: most visitors pay US$50; US citizens pay US$100. See our visa guide.
  • Travel insurance with medical evacuation cover — and Zanzibar's mandatory insurance if you visit the islands.
  • Tips for your guide and lodge staff — see tipping on safari.
  • Optional activities such as a balloon flight over the Serengeti, walking safaris or cultural visits.
  • Drinks, laundry and souvenirs at lodges.

How to get the most for your budget

  • Travel in the green or shoulder season for lower lodge rates.
  • Mix lodge levels — one special camp where it matters most, comfortable mid-range elsewhere.
  • Choose fewer parks with more time in each rather than long drives every day.
  • Book early for June to October, when the best-value camps fill first.

Quick answers

How much does a 7-day safari in Tanzania cost?

Multiply the daily range by seven: roughly $1,750–$2,450 per person on a budget safari, $3,150–$5,950 mid-range and $6,300+ for luxury. The lodges, the season and private or shared travel make the difference. Each of our packages shows its own price from.

Are park fees included in the price?

Yes. Our quotes include all park and conservation fees for the itinerary, so there are no surprises at the gate.

Why are Tanzania safaris more expensive than some other countries?

Mainly park fees, which are high in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro and fund conservation, and the cost of running lodges in remote wilderness. In return you get some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa.
