Amboseli National Park is located in southern Kenya, near the Tanzania border, with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. It lies about 240 km southeast of Nairobi and is easily accessible through road or domestic flights. The park covers 392 km² of open plains, swamps, acacia woodlands, and Lake Amboseli.
Animals Found:
Amboseli is world-famous for its large elephant herds, often photographed in front of Mount Kilimanjaro. You can also find lions, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and over 400 bird species. The wetlands attract large numbers of pelicans and Egyptian geese.
Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit Amboseli is from June to October and January to February, when the weather is dry and wildlife gathers around water sources. These seasons offer the clearest views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest density of wildlife.
Weather Conditions:
Amboseli has a hot and dry climate, with temperatures ranging between 25–32°C during the day. Rainfall is minimal, occurring mostly in April–May and November. The park can get dusty during the dry months due to its volcanic soil.
