Lake Mburo National Park is located in western Uganda, about a 4-hour drive from Kampala. It is the closest national park to the capital and ideal for short safaris or weekend getaways. The landscape features rolling hills, acacia woodlands, lakes, and open savannah. The park surrounds Lake Mburo, which supports rich aquatic life.
Animals Found:
Lake Mburo is home to zebras, elands, impalas, hippos, buffaloes, and giraffes. Unlike most Ugandan parks, it does not have elephants or lions, making it perfect for walking and horseback safaris. Birdlife is impressive, with over 300 species including the African finfoot and papyrus gonolek. The lake itself offers sightings of crocodiles and numerous waterbirds.
Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit is during the dry seasons from June to August and December to February, when animals are easier to spot around the lake and waterholes. Because the park is small and accessible, it can be enjoyed year-round. Boat rides, walking safaris, and night drives are available in all seasons.
Weather Conditions:
Lake Mburo has a warm climate with moderate rainfall. Temperatures typically range from 20°C to 27°C (68–80°F). Rainfall peaks in March–May and October–November but rarely disrupts activities. The park remains green for most of the year, with pleasant weather suitable for safari adventures.
