Tsavo West lies southwest of Tsavo East and is accessible from Nairobi or Mombasa. The park is known for its rugged landscapes, Mzima Springs, volcanic lava flows, and the Chyulu Hills.
Animals Found:
Wildlife includes elephants, black rhinos, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras, and over 400 birds. Mzima Springs is popular for seeing hippos and crocodiles through an underwater viewing chamber.
Best Time to Visit:
The dry seasons, June–October and January–February, offer the best wildlife visibility. The rainy seasons bring lush scenery but can make some roads difficult.
Weather Conditions:
Tsavo West has a warmer, wetter climate compared to Tsavo East because of its mountains. Temperatures range from 25–30°C, with April and May receiving the highest rainfall.
